Hoegy’s Farm Supply has provided respected agronomic advice for decades. Currently, we have eight Certified Crop Advisors on staff to meet your needs. We provide various types of professional soil sampling services.
We also provide a complete crop consulting program including crop recommendations, in-season crop scouting for weeds, insects, diseases, nutrient deficiencies, and general crop health, in-season recommendations, and nutrient, manure, and pesticide record-keeping. We’ve also been developing comprehensive nutrient management plans for livestock operations for over 20 years.
Soil Sampling Services Offered at Hoegy’s Farm Supply
Soil sampling is a best management practice used to determine the availability of nutrients to crops grown within the given area sampled. Results collected provide the information needed to come up with an effective fertility plan that minimize environmental impacts of over-application, but also improving overall crop production and optimizing input costs.

Composite Sampling
- Most requested soil sampling method
- Field is split into 25 acres sections.
- Gives a representative analysis of overall nutrients within the field sampled
Zone Sampling
- A more progressive form of composite sampling
- Field is split into pre-determined management zones – can be based on factors such as soil type, elevation, drainage or previous yields – different data platforms can also be used to create these zones
- Zones can start off simple, then can evolve based on findings
- Can be used to create variable rate prescriptions
Grid Sampling
- Recommended if field is variable in certain characteristics such as topography, soil type, crop rotations or if using variable rate equipment to apply nutrients
- Field is split into a desired grid pattern (usually 2.5 acres/grid)
- Shows more in-depth variability of nutrients across a field that can then be used to create variable rate prescriptions
